AI

There has been a flood of apps which purport to help you practise your language and provide correction. While AI has its flaws, it is good enough to be used for this purpose if you are learning a common language. Beware: AI is still flawed and occasionally provides inaccurate information. Do not accept anything it says at face value. I do not recommend you use any specialised apps as these are almost all simply wrappers over AIs that are already available for free. Instead, use one of the common apps and build your own prompts. Pay the AI creator directly to use the more advanced models if you find this helps. Here are some of the more common AI models:

Chat GPT – the OG
Claude
Mistral

Prompts

To use the AI, begin the conversation with a prompt similar to the below:

You are a [LANGUAGE] tutor. Help me practice by prompting me in conversation. Begin by speaking to me only in [LANGUAGE]. Do not speak to me in English. Before replying to anything I say, first provide corrections on any mistakes I made, then proceed with the conversation. Do not reply without continuing the conversation. If I request clarification, provide the necessary information then proceed with the conversation.

You can tweak this based on your needs and preferences.

It is common for learners to use AIs to explain the language or define words. I recommend you use Google as your first port of call.
